Introduction

Welcome to the Representative Council for Learners online course. This course is designed to equip you with the essential skills and knowledge needed to effectively represent and advocate for your learners within the school environment. By the end of this course, you will be empowered to lead assist RCL members to lead with confidence, resolve conflicts, and work collaboratively with school authorities to create a positive and inclusive educational experience for all learners..

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course you should be able to:

• Be in touch with learners and their problems, consult with them about what they want, get their permission to act on their behalf – this is called getting a mandate
• Represent learners’ interests with the school authorities i.e. the principal and school governing body (SGB)
• Report back to learners on all SGB or school decisions and the issues that affect them
• Understand the rights of learners, the law affecting schools and the powers and tasks of SGBs and RCLs
• Understand the causes of problems, the possible ways of solving them and the consequences of actions decided on
• Provide wise leadership, providing direction on developing your school, solving problems and resolving conflict.
