Unit Summary

In conclusion and in preparation for Unit 4:

Before you commence with designing (i.e. creating any intervention- namely, a project/programme/initiative/innovation), you need to interrogate the problem that your intended intervention aspires to solve. In other words, your staff must have a comprehensive picture of your current situation (problem) and an envisioned picture of the desired situation (once the problem reduces or is solved). This is referred to as strategy analysis.

This learning programme has provided you with a broad problem area of focus, namely ‘LITERACY’; and further affirms that no public school can ever reach optimal learner literacy development considering that we are living in the age of information which constantly requires tailor-made instructional techniques that respond to 21st century learner development needs. Remember, it is unwise to directly dive into solving the problem without:

  • Fully understanding the problem through data-informed thinking. This sets the baseline for your literacy intervention(s).
